Career Exploration and Education - Xello
SMALL GROUPS
Small groups are an important part of the counseling program in the Northwood School District. The purpose of small groups is to allow the students to acquire information and skills that will help them become more successful in the school setting.
Small groups have 3-6 students with similar needs. Groups may be focused on Social Emotional Learning, Anger Management, Self-Esteem, and GIRLS group, among others. Students can be referred for groups via teacher recommendation or parent request.
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
Individual counseling assists students in identifying problems, causes, possible consequences, and solutions. Areas that may be addressed in individual counseling can include: problem-solving strategies, interpersonal relationships, educational planning, conflict resolution, family change, anger management, and crisis intervention.
Students are often referred for individual counseling by parents, teachers, or themselves.

Xello is one of the tools we use for Academic and Career Planning in grades 6-12. Students use the program to learn more about themselves through various assessments, including: interest inventory, skills inventory, and learning styles survey. It also includes lessons for students to complete at each grade level to help them learn about themselves and the world around them.
In addition, the content of Xello is rich with information on careers, education, employment trends, and more. Each student has a personal Xello account with an e-portfolio. The e-portfolio holds assessment results, favorite information on schools and careers, and the student's Academic & Career Plan. This is updated each year, so students are able to back to previous years and review what they saved and why - and make any adjustments necessary.
