NorthStar invites local experts to lead indoor and outdoor lessons with students throughout the year.
Anna has worked with NorthStar for the past several years. We were introduced to her from the UW Extension office. Anna is now self-employed and works on conservation issues around the region completing jobs such as shoreline restoration and wetland delineation. Anna comes in about once a week during the winter to work with the kids on various topics.
Julie Yezek and Emily Burger from the UW Extension come in once a week for an hour to work with a group of middle school students. Their goal is to identify an area in the community that they want to improve. Last year, we adopted a highway and completed roadside cleanup. This year's focus: promoting the school forest.
Middle School students at NorthStar have the opportunity to attend the youth summit at UW-Superior in the fall. There, they have can choose sessions that revolve around healthy living and making good choices.
