I love teaching science at the middle school level (28 years now!) and look forward to a great year with the 7th and 8th graders! In 7th grade we will be working on Life Science NGSS learning goals. In 8th grade we will be working on Earth and Physical Science NGSS learning goals. All grades will work on Engineering NGSS learning goals.
General Course Information - Please refer to the course outline in your student's science notebook or the ones linked here for more details about the topics for the trimesters.
Students need to have a 3 ring binder with at least 2 dividers and a supply of loose leaf paper. We keep all of our work in the binder in order by date so it is ready to use for practice and review. We encourage students to use a homework folder for nightly homework as it usually is only a page or two.
Students need to have a pencil or pen for each class. We do use colored pencils, highlighters and index cards which I have available for in class use.
Daily class work and home work are formative (learning and practice) work that builds understanding. Students also complete individual formative tasks to guage their progress with concepts and give them an idea of topics needing review and practice. The term grade is based on the Summative Tasks that ask students to independently apply their understanding. These happen at the end of learning units.
Students are expected to check Alma each week using their own student log in. We will ensure all students can log in during the first weeks of school.
Parents, please monitor your student's grades via the parent log-in and help your student check their progress and grades through Alma. Teachers try to update Alma biweekly or sooner.
Send me a note via e-mail if you have any questions or concerns. We are a team to support your student's learning.
I look forward to hearing from you!
