Zones of Regulation

Zones of Regulation is an evidence based approach to regulating emotions in all children. The benefits of using Zones of Regulation with your child may include identifying feelings, building self awareness of body signals, developing perspective taking skills, understanding when and how to use regulating tools, building positive decision making and problem solving skills, and identifying triggers that impact regulation.

After You Establish Your Zone

After your child has established which zone they are in, it's time to do the work to help them self regulate. It's okay to not always been in the green zone. Sometimes we get mad, sad, or frustrated and that's normal. What's important is understanding the feeling we are having and then being able to get what we need in order to regulate ourselves back to the green zone. Below are some examples of what to do when your child is in the different zones. Work with your child to see what works for them when they are in the different zones.
