Catapult Challenge: This is our optional project for students for our physics unit. At the end of the unit, student may complete for the catapult that shoots the furthest and the catapult that is the most accurate. The projectiles must be mini-marshmallows when used at school. The simpler the catapult the better! Below are some links to some good catapults, but it's also fun to search for yourself, or better yet, design your own.
Bring in your catapult any time you finish and you can show it to the class.
** Tongue Depressor Catapult or Same but different directions or easier yet
** Lego Catapult (looks a little tricky)
** Popsicle Stick Catapult (looks a little tricky)
**** Mohs Hardness Game (not working!) Break through the wall 3 times of more. Get a different person's initial each time you break through all the walls.
** Growing Crystals - Grow crystals in a magic ball. May not work. If it doesn't,
DON'T tell the teacher, just go to the next game.
*** Mineral Identification - Used the tests we did in class to help identify different minerals. Identify 5 minerals. When the dog is happy and dancing, write down the name of the mineral you identified and have them initial your paper. You must have someone different initial it each time.
** What is a Mineral? - Play four times. Each time write down how many you got right (you have to remember). Read why you got your answer wrong so you do better each time.
** How we use Minerals? - Play 3 times. Each time, pick a new set of objects. Get an initial each time you win an award.
** Mohs Hardness Ranking: Record your number correct and wrong.
