Occasionally students have some time when they are done with their work early, passed out of a topic in math on a pretest, or just have some free time. While they can always read a book or write in their journals, doing a side project can be fun. Some students even like to do extra projects at home. The hard part is thinking of an idea and how to present it. Here are some ideas.
Your projects DO have to have some writing unless it's building or demonstrating for science, but even then you have to be ready to talk about it and use science vocabulary.
BEST IDEA: Pick something we are doing in class!
EXAMPLES:
Physics your thing? Build a catapult, do a report (book form or poster)
on the biggest roller coasters, write a song about
kinetic and potential energy!
1st - Ask the teacher if your idea is ok.
2nd - Get a outline from the art table.
3rd -Have your outline checked by the teacher.
4th - Work on your final copy.
Games: design your own on any science or math topic - must show 1st draft before receiving poster board.
Song - write a song! Use the melody of a popular song.
Write a science or math story!
Make a mobile or model (at home).
Demonstrate a science concept. Books are in the reading area.
1st - Show the teacher your idea so he can see if he can get the supplies.
2nd - Fill out the yellow demonstration sheet.
3rd - Practice before presenting!
Do an experiment! Experiment sheets are located on the Art Table.
Make a graph!
Poetry!
