The pop music phenomenon Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce have recently announced their engagement to the world on August 26th 2025.
The couple announced the engagement by sharing an Instagram post captioned, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” The Instagram post racked up millions of likes within minutes of it being posted and social media exploded with fan reactions and feedback. The post included pictures of the two surrounded by a garden, holding hands and showing off her new ring.
For the millions of dedicated fans this was a huge moment. In July of 2023 Travis Kelce first mentioned Taylor Swift on his podcast New Heights that he co-hosts with his brother Jason Kelce. Travis shared how he tried to meet Taylor backstage after watching her concert and wanted to give her a friendship bracelet with his number on it. Fans of Swift and her music as well as Kelce’s football fans have been following the relationship ever since. Swift would frequently attend the Kansas City Chiefs football team’s games to see Kelce play. The couple was often photographed together by paparazzi and the two became one of the most followed celebrity love stories of their time.
After years of writing songs about failed relationships and heartbreak, Swift's fans felt personally invested in her relationship status, so her engagement was a ground-breaking moment for both the fans and Taylor.

Listeners believe that many of the love songs on the album express the loving relationship between her and her now fiance, Kelce.
As of right now no wedding date has been announced. Sources speculate that the event will be a private family-oriented event that will be shown to the public after the fact.

Much beloved and respected Frank Caprio leaves legacy of empathy, care, compassion
By: Tessa Grillo
The world recently lost one of its kindest souls, Judge Frank Caprio, who became known as “the nicest judge in the world,” and passed away on August 20th, 2025 at age 88 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. His death has left people everywhere, from Rhode Island to all corners of social media, feeling the loss of a man who made compassion in the legal system normal again.
Judge Caprio spent decades serving his community as the chief judge of the Providence Municipal Court, but it was not until clips from his TV show Caught in Providence began circulating online that the world truly got to know him. In those viral moments, he was not your typical judge. He listed, laughed, and forgave. Sometimes, he’d ask about a defendant's life before making a decision, and more often than not, his kindness would shine through. He would waive fines for struggling parents or show understanding to someone who just needed someone to give them a chance.
What made Judge Caprio so loved was how human he was. On platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, millions watched his clips for comfort. His words and gentle demeanor became a symbol of hope for those in need of it. He was living proof that empathy still exists, even in the most unlikely places. In an age where people online can be quick to judge, he reminded us all what real judgement should look like.
When news of his passing broke in August, tributes flooded social media. Fans shared their favorite clips and moments of Caprio, writing about how his compassion had touched their lives. Rhode Island’s governor called him a “treasure,” and flags across the state were lowered in his honor. Even in his final days, Judge Caprio continued to inspire. In one of this last videos from the hospital, he thanked his supporters and asked simply to be remembered for his love of people.
Judge Frank Caprio did not just change the way individuals viewed justice, he changed the way we saw each other. He showed kindness to people from all walks of life, and that it doesn’t make you weak, but powerful. For fans around the world that were exposed to his trials, his message will live on that no matter who you are, everyone deserves to be treated with understanding and grace.

Many eagerly anticipate what will happen next to characters of popular TV phenomenon
By: Tessa Grillo
Every once in a while, a show comes alone that everyone seems to be watching. The Summer I Turned Pretty was one of those rare moments. A show that brought together people of all ages, from teenagers to parents to grandparents, all tuning in every Wednesday. It became more than just a TV series, it was something everyone could talk about, a shared experience that made viewers feel connected.
Based on Jenny Han’s bestselling book trilogy, the show follows Isabel, or “Belly” Conklin, as she spends her summers at Cousins Beach with her family and the Fisher brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. What starts as a simple summer love story quickly becomes something much bigger. It integrates themes of growing up, falling in love, and figuring out who you are.
When the show’s latest season premiered on Prime Video, it essentially took over social media. People were picking sides with the hashtags, #TeamConrad or #TeamJeremiah, and posting or re-posting edits and theories every day. It did not matter how old you were, everyone had an opinion. It became a global conversation, with millions of viewers all watching together.
But what really made The Summer I Turned Pretty stand out was its finale. The anticipation had been built for three seasons now, and the last few episodes left fans heartbroken, emotional, and full of questions about where Belly's story would go next. It didn’t just wrap up a season, it set up the events for something bigger.
Now, the story is getting even bigger. Jenny Han recently announced that The Summer I Turned Pretty is being extended into a movie. Han, who also created the very successful film To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, will direct the film, bringing the story to the big screen for the first time. Stars Lola Tung and Chrisopher Briney are confirmed to return, and fans are completely astonished by this news online.
There is no official release date yet, but excitement is already building. For fans, the movie feels like a perfect way to close out a story that’s eant so much to many. The series is not just a show. It had become a piece of pop culture that reminded everyone how fun it can be to watch something together. Now, with a movie on the way, it looks like all fans will be heading back to Cousins Beach just one more time.
Jenny Han has commented on the upcoming film as it is in the makes. She says, “And I just really wanted to give its due. And we had also been through a whole season of Belly and Jeremiah’s wedding, and I wanted to have space for whatever the next step is.” Her words have fans even more eager to see how movies will continue the story, finally giving Belly and Conrad the happy ending that was majorly manifested.
Guillermo Del Toro Brings Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein to The Big Screen
Familiar Monster transformed under acclaimed director's creative approach
By: Reese Rothfuss
The highly anticipated movie, starring Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Oscar Issac, was released in theaters on October 17, 2025 and is now available on Netflix beginning on November 7, 2025. Famous for his sympathetic monsters, it is likely that Del Toro has crafted an unconventional role for Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein’s monster. Viewers will see a more vulnerable monster on screen than in Shelly’s novel. While Del Toro’s adaptation of Frankenstein will stay true to the iconic story line, there is a promise of secondary characters playing a more active role in the film to develop emotional themes.
The classic themes of darkness and fear will still be present in the film, but there is also a strong emphasis on emotional aspects. Fatherhood, compassion, and ambition will be major elements in the film. In Del Toro’s adaptation, the journey of the monster will be a major focus of the plot. Elordi portrays the monster as a powerful, but deeply human character. The character must evolve and learn in order to move and think as humans do. His evolution and search for meaning is the main focus of the film which hit theaters in October and can now be seen on Netflix. If you are a fan of fantastic special effects and amazing makeup and costumes, you will not want to miss this one!
Julia Roberts Generates Oscar Buzz Over Role in New Movie: ‘After the Hunt’
Will veteran actress and former Oscar winner take home yet another top Academy prize?
By: Tessa Boisseau
Julia Roberts stars as the main character in the new controversial movie, After the Hunt released on October 10th, 2025. The movie is directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Nora Garrett. Staring alongside Roberts are Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Ayo Edebiri. Julia Roberts’s character, Alma Imhoff is a Yale professor of philosophy who does not seem to care as much about her husband, Michael Stuhlbarg, as she does her job.
The plot line first reveals itself to be Alma fighting for tenure against one of her long time friends Henrik ‘Hank’ Gibson, played by Andrew Garfield. The plot changes, however and to the extent that critics claim that too much is going on in the movie to really follow the story line.
After the film introduces the issue of tenure, Alma hosts a party where students and professors from Yale mingle over the drinks she provides. The next day, Maggie Resnick (Ayo Edebiri), Alma's favorite PhD student, accuses Hank of innaproriate behavior. Alma must navigate the conflict between a long time colleague and a favored student while concealing her own secrets and recurring stomach pain.
BBC comments, “In theory, viewers of After the Hunt should leave the cinema arguing about its subject matter. In practice, they're more likely to be asking each other what was going on and what it meant,” leaving many other critics in agreement.
The consensus of viewers seems to be that After the Hunt focused too much on attempting to be a clever and unique take on current issues and less on being a coherent and digestible movie. Guadagnino attempted to use music to elevate the film, but only succeeded in taking attention away from the plot, and the screenplay writing diverges from the main plot to set up subplots and attempts of being intelligent too much to be followable.
“[It started] out as a suspenseful storyline but quickly turned into [a] mediocre dribble that detracted from the main incident and just became a general social critique with no conclusive arch,” said reviewer ‘rgb B’ on rottentomatoes.com.
That said, Julia Roberts’s performance was one of her best to date. Many people even claim that her acting alone was the best part of the movie: “This will be, no question, Roberts’s fifth Oscar nomination, and likely second win,” said Kevin Maher with The Times (UK). Many find the quiet strength Robert’s played her character with to be very appealing and find her performance to be intense in the best way.
Ultimately, while the movie After the Hunt is disliked by many, Julia Roberts’s performance has been critically acclaimed. The movie seems to be Roberts’s best shot yet of winning an Oscar since she won Best Actress in 2001. The movie currently holds a 52% on Rotten Tomatoes, an average rating of 3.5/5 on Letterboxd, and a 6/10 on IMDb.
Fashion Icon Anna Wintour Steps Down From Vogue Editor Post
Long standing contributions to fashion and Hollywood impacted millions for decades
By: Madyson Renna
Anna Wintour is a British-American fashion icon, who spent her time as Vogue magazine’s editor-in-chief from 1988 to 2025. She is recognized for her original bob and dark colored glasses, and can sometimes be referred to as “Nuclear Wintour” for her difficult yet hardworking personality. Wintour began her career in fashion at just 16 years old, where she worked in a fashion boutique, and for magazines such as Harper’s & Queen, Viva, New York, and Home & Garden. Wintour rose to become one of the most influential figures in fashion as she shaped international style trends, and made the Met Gala fashion's most important event. She had control over the industry, bridging the gap between fashion and pop culture. Her featuring of well-know celebrities ultimately turned Vogue into what it is today, pop culture's “fashion bible.”
The Devil Wears Prada, both the book and the film adaptation, are based on her, illustrating her iconic image in the fashion industry. This glorified legacy left many wondering the real reason as to why she stepped down.
Wintour played a significant role in the fashion industry and has been involved in some capacity, for 37 years. Currently she serves as the Global Chief Content Officer and Global Editorial Director at Vogue. She continues her influential role at Conde Nast where she is responsible for overseeing the editorial strategy for all of Conde Nast’s Vogue editions worldwide except for The New Yorker. Her recent decisions to step into a new editorial role is part of a broader reorganization within the company. Wintour's legacy at Vogue includes making fashion a mainstream cultural force, as she used her influence to boost designers and celebrities.
Looking ahead, Conde Nast is searching for a new Head of Editorial Content to guide Vogue into its next chapter. The incoming editor will report directly to Wintour's, keeping her updated and involved, as well as using her guidance for future purposes in the industry. She will also be present at the most famous fashion events such as the Met Gala.
Anna’s legacy did not go unnoticed, it will just be continuously passed down to the younger generation, striving everyone to work their hardest, use their voice, and keep them inspired.

Jimmy Kimmel Show Cancelled...Or Was It?
Weeks after Colbert Cancellation Another Late Night Host faces consequences for commentaries
By: Micheala Dest
Recent controversies surrounding late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert have created debate over the state of free speech in American media. Known for mixing comedy with sharp political commentary, both entertainers have faced unexpected distributions that some see as routine corporate decisions, and others as warning signs of increasing political pressure on expression.
In September, ABC abruptly pulled Jimmy Kimmel off the air live after making remarks criticizing right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk and his followers! The suspension came just after taping, with executives citing a desire to “cool tensions.” Public backlash was quick, and the show returned days later. Meanwhile, CBS announced that Stephen Colbert’s Late Show will end in 2026, officially due to declining late night viewership and financial strain. Yet the timing, amid Colbert's frequent political critiques and Paramount's pending corporate merger, has raised questions about whether the decision was purely business or partly political.
Critics argue these incidents signal a chilling effect on free speech. When a network removes a host for political commentary, even temporarily, it sends a message that outspoken viewpoints carry professional risk. The involvement of figures like FCC Chair Brendan Carr, who publicly criticized Kimmel and encouraged local stations to consider pulling the show, heightens these concerns. While networks are private entities with the right to control their programming, government officials pressuring broadcasters to silence certain voices crosses a constitutional line. The first Amendment protects speech from state interference, but when political power indirectly shapes corporate media behavior, that protection becomes murky.
Supporters of the network's decisions insist these are not acts of censorship but of management. Late-night television is struggling through declining ratings, changing audience habits, and raising production costs. Networks have long exercised discretion over what content fits their brand, and not every suspension or cancellation carries political motives. Yet even if economics play a role, the pattern of silencing politically charged commentary, especially when it challenges those in power, raises serious concerns about the independence of media institutions.
These moments underscore how fragile free expression can become in a system where government influence, corporate interests, and public outrage collide. Whether Kimmel's suspension and Colbert's looming exit represent censorship or coincidence, both reveal a media that is increasingly wary of controversy. When fear of backlash determines what gets said, or who gets to speak, freedom of speech may not be officially revoked, but it is undeniably vulnerable and under attack.
Final Note: Within days of his dismissal, with Disney and other companies facing widespread backlash throughout the country regarding freedom of speech, Kimmel was back on the air. Stay tuned in the Winter Phoenix issue for updates on how events unfolded that put him back in his hosting seat, the reception he received from his audience/fans and the emotional statement he made regarding the "tragic murder of a young man, husband and father." The American people have spoken and their voices have been heard.
Jimmy Kimmel Live audience warmly welcomes him back to the air after a brief cancellation.

Take a Look at GAP and Its Controversial Katseye Connection
How does the ultimate "fashion statement" impact the public?
By: Izma Sayed
In August of 2025, GAP released a new denim campaign starring the viral girl group, Katseye. This advertisement sparked a viral frenzy all over social media platforms with the captivating visuals and music.
As the six-member group were the faces of Gap’s “Better in Denim” push, the film features the group leading dozens of dances in fluid movements with Kelis’s 2003 hit “Milkshake.” The visual style references the early 2000s minimalism with a twist of a new jean style. One social media moment revolving around this film became popular as an Indian mother explained how moving it was to see someone like Lara Raj, a Katseye member, in a major ad like this. This video alone obtained over 100k views.
Within just 3 days of the recognition, the advertisement gained 400 million views. TikTok users quickly jumped into the trend and participated in dance challenges that incorporated the choreography used in the campaign. The AD was not only a remarkable marketing tactic, but it also transformed Gap into a sensational brand seemingly overnight.
During an interview with Preview Magazine, the girl group mentioned how each member was able to express themselves individually and still felt cohesive together. Others online mentioned how talented the girls were, being able to move freely with all of the dramatic turns and splits while wearing jeans.
Though, there wouldn’t be such a sensation around this campaign without some controversy. Just weeks before the launch of the collaboration, American Eagle came out with a denim campaign of their own, starring Sydney Sweeny. AE used a slogan play on the homophones “genes” and “jeans." Unfortunately, this wordplay received much backlash. A vast amount of people argued how there were themes of micro aggression, specifically when the main face of this advertisement was actress, Sydney Sweeny talking about her genes. Opponents called it tone deaf with the wrong usage of identity and especially the supposedly underlying sexual remarks in the script. In response, AE defended the campaign, alongside Sydney Sweeny, claiming it was about her story. Regardless of the criticism received, the ad still continued to grow in popularity and views.
Some people even compared the two ads and interpreted the lyrics in Gap's video “better than yours” as a subtle jab at American Eagle. Former Gap CEO, Mickey Drexler, later voiced his opinion, saying that American Eagle mishandled the backlash by not directly acknowledging it. Gap's Katseye campaign smartly played off the buzz created by Sweeney's ad, but it redirected the focus. Where the American Eagle spot faced criticism for potentially conveying exclusionary undertones, the Gap film leaned into diversity, dance, and vibrant visuals, avoiding any controversial subtext. This was not just a “war” with popularity but it also was an insight of the various scenarios that come out of being in the public eye.
Cardi B Cleared in Assault Lawsuit...Condemns Allegations
Dramatic trial provides entertaining and amusing moments
By: Rachel Sajan
Rapper and song writer Cardi B was cleared of all charges in a high-profile civil lawsuit involving a former security guard, Emani Ellis, following an incident in Beverly Hills in 2018. The jury deliberated for less than an hour before ruling in Cardi B’s favor, ending the $24 million lawsuit.
Ellis had alleged that Cardi B physically assaulted her outside a medical office, claiming she was scratched with a long acrylic nail and spat on, causing both physical and emotional harm. The lawsuit also claimed that Ellis lost her job and endured lasting trauma due to the incident.
During the trial, Cardi B denied any physical contact. She admitted that a verbal confrontation occurred but insisted that it never became physical. Cardi B’s legal team emphasized that Ellis had been recording her without permission and that she was concerned for her privacy, especially since she was pregnant at the time. Testimony from staff at the office supported parts of Cardi B’s account, with the doctor and receptionist stating they did not witness a physical altercation.
The trial drew widespread media attention, partially due to Cardi B’s candid courtroom moments. She openly discussed her pregnancy at the time of the incident, addressed questions about her signature hairstyles, and even admitted to struggling to stay awake during parts of the proceedings.
After the verdict, Cardi B publicly reaffirmed her innocence, saying, “I did not touch that woman, I did not lay my hands on that girl.” She also indicated that she might file counter-suits against future “frivolous lawsuits” targeting her.
Despite the legal stress, Cardi B continues to maintain her music career and public presence, while also participating in philanthropic efforts, including donations to schools and community programs. The outcome of this case marks a clear victory for the rapper, allowing her to focus on her family, music, and creative projects without the shadow of this legal dispute.
