Bands

Northcote College has a fine history of producing quality student-led bands, and through our band mentoring program we aim to continue and improve upon this tradition. Our bands have enjoyed success at a number of Auckland secondary school band competitions, including Smokefree Rockquest, Stand Up Stand Out, New-Found Sound, and the Play It Strange songwriting competition.

We have a focus on creating original music with the end goal of live performance and recording. Band mentor and Head of Music Mr. Flyger has a long history of composing, recording, and performing in bands, and has previously created band mentoring programs at Westlake Boys’ High School and Massey High School during his teaching career. 

With assistance from external mentors, Mr Flyger will work with your band to assist you with composition, arrangement, stagecraft, balancing your sound, and general performance skills.

If you do not yet have a fully formed band, the Northcote College Music Department is keen to help create musical connections, so please let us know so we can try to connect like minded students. Rehearsal and mentoring times will be before school or after school, with lunchtimes and intervals available for self-directed practice.
