What is Second Step?
Second Step is a program rooted in social-emotional learning (SEL) that helps transform schools into supportive, successful learning environments uniquely equipped to encourage children to thrive. More than just a classroom curriculum, Second Step’s holistic approach helps create a more empathetic society by providing education professionals, families, and the larger community with tools to enable them to take an active role in the social-emotional growth and safety of today’s children.
As we begin our adventures in Second Step I will update this page with specific guidance for lessons as is needed. In addition I can work with you on setting up a lesson either in class or virtually. Below I have included two videos. The first outlines what you can expect to find in your kit. The second is a webinar about Second Step and how you can use it to help improve your overall classroom environment. I also included a free ebook that Second Step provides on their website to go more in depth about SEL and its importance in the success of our students. The last section is oodles of resources with ideas, activities and lesson plans that you can use to supplement the Second Step curriculum.
