The NBIS Library allows students to check out up to THREE resources at one time. But that does not only mean books! You may also check out our audiobooks and magazines too! Mix and match the resources you would like to explore, but make sure you return or renew them by the date due stamp found on the back of the material to make sure you do not get a late notice!
The NBIS Library is separated into sections: Fiction and Non-Fiction. There are also areas for magazines, Playaways (audiobooks), Biographies and Graphic Novels. The Fiction section is organized alphabetically by the first three letters of the author's last name. The Non-Fiction section is organized by the Dewey Decimal System. In the Dewey Decimal System, topics are sorted by number. Each book in this section is organized by ascending number according to this system. The books in the non-fiction section are also separated by the first three letters of the author's last name. This system makes it easier to find what you are looking for. For example, a library may have lots of books on Football (Call Number 796.33) but to be able to find the exact book you want, you need the call number AND the last three letters of the author's last name to find what you are looking for.
A call number can be found on the white sticker on the spine of a book. The call number tells readers where a certain book can be found on the shelves based on whether the book is fiction or nonfiction and the last three letters of the author's last name. Using this information, match the call number found on Destiny to the sticker on the spine of the book on the library shelves.
Destiny is the online catalog that allows you to search for any topic or title in the library. You can log onto the Destiny Homepage to find research databases, learn how to make work cited pages, find information you need for class, and so much more! You can also look up a particular author, topic, or series to see if we have what you are looking for. If what you're looking for is already checked out, login to Destiny to put the book on hold. You can even write a review of your favorite book to let other readers know that this book is a can't miss read! Click on the button labeled Destiny at the top of the page to explore it for yourself!
An eBook is also known as an electronic book. Any eBook can be read on any electronic device that has access to the Internet. This means that if you want to read a book, you do not need to have the paperback or hardcover version of your story. Instead, you can use a handy smartphone, tablet, or even laptop to begin reading. These books can be found and checked out on the Destiny website. You can find Destiny Discover under the Catalog tab on the NBIS Destiny webpage. To get a step by step guide on how to check out an eBook on Destiny Discover, click the Destiny tab at the top of this page.
There can be many displays going on in the library at the same time. The NBIS library displays books as well as projects from all of the grades throughout the year. Please show PRIDE and don't touch other student's artwork in the library. However, all of the books on display are available to be checked out. Every month we feature a Genre of the Month which showcases novels that are part of that genre.
