Instrument Choices/ Rental

When students at NAMS choose to take band, they are given a wide selection of instruments to choose from. Students in their first year of band can choose one instrument from the following list:

BRASS

Trumpet

Trombone 

WOODWINDS

Flute

Clarinet

Saxophone 

Oboe

PERCUSSION

Students will learn to play bells and drums. 

We have worked with K&C Music Co. out of Norwood, MA for many years and they rent reliable, high quality band instruments. This is one option for you, but you may rent or purchase an instrument wherever you wish.

Today there are many brands of instruments to choose from and, unfortunately, many are of low quality. If you find an instrument on the internet or big box store that is very inexpensive it probably will not hold up. Some good brands to look for are Armstrong, Yamaha, Bach, Holton, King, Vito, Selmer, or Buffet for woodwinds or brass. We recommend Ludwig, Pearl, or Vic Firth brands for percussion kits. These kits come with a set of bells, drum pad, sticks, and mallets in a mobile case. 

K&C will be taking orders via their website and then instruments  can be picked up at Instrument Rental Night. The first payment for the rental also includes a music book, cleaning kit, and music stand.
