Mr. Nelson

Mr. Nelson grew up in Wakefield, MA where he starting playing the trumpet in 6th grade. Music quickly became his passion and by high school he was performing in the marching band, wind ensemble, jazz band, and chamber singers. During his senior year of high school Mr. Nelson performed at Carnegie Hall in the All-Eastern Jazz Band and toured Italy with the New England Conservatory Youth Symphony.

After high school, Mr. Nelson attended the University of New Hampshire for his undergraduate degree in music education. After student teaching at Timberlane Regional School District (Plaistow, NH) in 2003, he began teaching at NAMS in the fall of 2004. In 2010 he completed his master's degree in music education from Boston University. Currently Mr. Nelson plays trumpet in the Melrose Symphony Orchestra and North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra. He also very active in the local music educators association having served as the Northeastern District Senior Festival Coordinator and Northeastern District Chairperson.

Mr. Ignos

Mr. Ignos grew up in Falmouth, MA where he started playing Alto Saxophone in the fourth grade. In 6th grade, Mr. Ignos switched to Tenor Saxophone, which he played all the way through high school. Mr. Ignos has participated in many performing groups including marching band, jazz band, dixieland band, a few different rock bands, and a semi-professional big band.

After high school, Mr. Ignos attended the University of New Hampshire where he received his Bachelor's of Music degree in music education. After student teaching in the Londonderry Schools District in Londonderry, NH, he began his teaching career in the Haverhill Public School, teaching middle and elementary school band in the winter of 2005 and in 2009, Mr. Ignos was happy to join the NAMS band family. In 2014, Mr. Ignos completed his Master of Music Education degree from Gordon College in Wenham, MA. Mr. Ignos is also involved with Massachusetts Music Educator's Association and previously served as the Northeastern District's Junior Band Manager and Senior Jazz Band Manager.
