The National Honor Society is a nation-wide organization comprised of high school students who are dedicated to high standards of scholarship, leadership, service and character. Students enter the Honor Society as juniors and they set academic and civic goals for themselves for the remainder of their high school experience. Northampton's local chapter of the National Honor Society is known as the Nonotuck Chapter.
(1) Maintain a minimum 3.4 grade point average
(2) Complete a total of 20 hours of volunteer service by graduation, at least 10 of which must be in the first semester of your senior year.
Required volunteer service hours have been reinstated as of the 2022 school year.
NHS students who have a minimum 3.4 GPA receive an invitation to apply to the honor society in March of their junior year. A team of NHS faculty reviews the applications and determines acceptance. Students are informed of acceptance and are invited to take part in a special National Honor Society induction ceremony to formalize membership.
