Classroom school counseling lessons are an effective approach to educate and teach our Hosack students about specific topics related to their Academic Success, Personal/Social Domains, and Career Planning.
These structured lessons are designed to help students attain the desired competencies and to provide all students with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills appropriate for their developmental level.
The school counseling lessons are presented by the Hosack School Counselor, Mrs. Cohen, in collaboration with other professional educators in our K-5 classrooms. I visit our classrooms multiple times throughout the school year and have the chance to interact with every student during these lessons. Lessons typically last 30 minutes in length.
The North Allegheny Elementary School Counselors coordinate and implement the delivery of classroom guidance lessons in the areas of:
Orientation to School Counseling (Who is your School Counselor?)
Career Readiness (Career Clusters and Portfolio Development in Grades 1-5); NAVIANCE
Drug and Alcohol Prevention
Positive Climate/Bully Prevention
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
