​Join us for this local event that incorporates the Women in Data Science live stream, hands-on workshops: R Shiny, Introduction to Github, Statistical Learning Methods in R, Ethics in Data Science, technical and vision talks by area women data scientists, and lots of networking opportunities.

9:00 - 9:45 AM Registration, Networking, and Welcome

9:45 - 10:45 AM Hands On Workshops - (1) Introduction to Github; (2) Introduction to Shiny; (3) Statistical Learning Methods in R; and (4) Ethics in Data Science ( please use this form to indicate your workshop preference - space is limited in each workshop so registration is required.)

11:00 - 11:30 Data Science for Social Good Discussion and Upcoming Data Challenge Announcements

11:30 - NOON Three Minute Ignite Talks

  • Using the Ignite talk model participants get three minutes to share 3 slides. The goal is to build the slides to ensure a "fast and fun presentation." This is an opportunity to share an interesting project or career trajectory. To be on the schedule you must submit your slides by March 1st.

WiDS Washington DC-VA-MD is an independent event organized by Diahn Allen, Donna LaLonde, Wendy Martinez, Kelly O'Briant, and Amanda Traud to coincide with the annual Global Women in Data Science (WiDS) Conference held at Stanford University and an estimated 150+ locations worldwide. All genders are invited to attend WiDS regional events, which features outstanding women doing outstanding work.

The Global WiDS Conference and our regional event aim to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, and to support women in the field. This one-day technical conference provides an opportunity to hear about the latest data science related research and applications in a number of domains, and connect with others in the field.
