Message from Culinary Department Chair, Chef Dana Tuohy:
BeBe!!
BeBe is one of the most intense people I’ve ever met. She is determined, courageous, inquisitive, self motivated - but one thing she is not, is patient.
When BeBe first came to us in Culinary, she struggled with not being her best right out of the gate. She understood that she needed to learn the foundational work before letting the creative process develop the chef she would become, but she did not understand why it hadn't happened in the first semester. This was probably the first situation that she couldn’t rush and bully her way through and it drove her crazy. As much as I could encourage her to trust me and the process, to give it time, she was not happy about it. It got to the point where she would answer her own question to me with “yeah, yeah, I know, Chef- trust the process!”.
‘Trust the process’ is such a cliche but in this instance it was spot on. Although maybe what I should have been saying was trust yourself - you’ll get there. And get there she did! With a lot of hard work and dedication to her art, BeBe has succeeded in becoming a gifted and talented chef with nothing but potential in front of her. Overcoming some serious family issues, including losing her home and kitchen to flooding, BeBe never missed a beat. She came to school everyday and gave her all in class.
And now she’ll be rolling her eyes at me in her no-nonsense BeBe way. But it must be said that she is also generous, caring, passionate, and one heck of a gardener! It has been a pleasure to teach and get to know BeBe over the last three years and I look forward to knowing her, working with her and cheering her on for many years to come.
