Mr. Derfus Bio
Hello seventh graders! My name is Sam Derfus and I am pleased to be your language arts and American history teacher this year. I studied political science and social studies education at Bethel University and am currently finishing my master's degree in education and curriculum at Saint Mary's University. Before teaching at Noble Academy, I worked as a substitute teacher in the Anoka Hennepin district for two years.
I teach because I want to enable you, the next generation, to change the world in whatever ways you see fit. I want to empower you to have the critical thinking skills to make tough decisions and forge your own path in life. In the classroom, I will expect great things from you and I believe that you will deliver on them. You will all be excellent social studies and language arts scholars by the end of the year. I also want you to enjoy these classes. When we can have fun together, we want to come to shool and we are motivated to learn and grow.
I am excited to work with you this year through the easy times and the hard. I am confident we can make something special out of this year.
