HILTON Elementary 5th grade Preferrred Supply List
MANY items will need to be replenished during the year.
Please check with your student to see if they are in need of supplies.
A helpful shopping list of the items that your 5th grade Heron will need throughout the school year. You do not need to purchase the items through Amazon, but I found this is helpful for many families. Please be mindful that this list is set to ship to Hilton, but DOES NOT automatically list which student items are intended for- please ship to your home address to make sure your student receives their supplies. Classroom items , such as tissues etc. can be shipped to the school in care of me.
Basic Supplies
4-5 composition notebooks (HIGHLY recommended) (math, science, reading, writing, 1 extra)
Regular and Colored Pencils (recommend also cap erasers and handheld sharpener with cap)
Scissors
Glue sticks (at least 6 to start but will need to be replenished frequently)
3 - 2 pocket folders (homework, incomplete work, writing)
2 packs of wide ruled filler paper (these are community driven)
1 set of headphones to stay at school (no bluetooth)
REUSABLE water bottle (labeled) (please no straw cups or disposable bottles)
Tissues (will be used as a class)
Clorox wipes (will be used as a class)
Please ensure that these items come to school daily:
Homework folder (hopefully... with completed homework)
Math, Science, and/or Literacy notebooks and /or folders
REUSABLE PLASTIC water bottle that can be closed (please no straw cups or disposable water bottles), since filling stations have replaced water fountains
Approved clear bookbag and supplies (pencils, glue, scissors colored pencils )
NNPS issued Student ID on lanyard for identification to be worn daily.
The most important homework task your child can complete is getting into the routine of reading each day. Help establish a reading routine with your family. You can also use the Eureka Succeed workbook with Homework Helper pages to continue math skills for each module.
For the health and safety of our students, Hilton has a no food policy. On birthdays or special occasions, non-food items may be provided (books, erasers, “goodie bags”, etc.).
You can stay informed about your child’s progress by checking the Thursday Folders. A behavior report will be sent each week, along with student work. You can also access your child's grades using ParentVUE/StudentVUE. Please sign up in the office and you can read more here: http://sbo.nn.k12.va.us/parentvue/
Our district-wide grade weight has two categories:
Assessments 45% (district/teacher tests/quizzes)
Classwork 55% (assignments, projects, performance assessments)
Per NNPS policy, no grades may be entered below 50%. If you see a discrepancy between work samples graded in the Thursday folder and ParentVUE/StudentVUE, that is why. This is an effort to allow students an opportunity to bring up grades and recover after lower scores. I suggest monitoring averages to be aware of mastery of skills and current academic progress.
NNPS Grading Scale
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = 59% and below
