Canvas pages are made up of different elements. You can mix and match them anyway you want.
Announcements
You can create an Announcement to share important information with all users in your course. Please use announcements (not email) for all full class announcements. Email should be for individual or small group discussion.
Assignments
Teachers use Assignments to post required classwork, readings and homework. Students see assignments in several places including the To Do feed, calendar, the assignments channel, modules (if added) and via email if they have notifications turned on. You can choose to give any assignment a Peer Review component.
Modules
Modules are a great ways to organize. They can show the entire flow of your course and content in any custom way, by week, by unit, project based... Modules can contain any type of Canvas element (assignments, discussions, pages...) and they can be reordered and reorganized easily.
Calendar
The Calendar is a great way to view everything you have to do for all your courses in one place. You can view calendar events by day, week, month, or agenda list. The calendar also includes access to the Scheduler, which is an optional scheduling tool in Canvas.
Note: Many students use the calendar as their main Canvas interface.
Gradebook
All assignments are automatically entered into the gradebook. You can manually enter and edit grades in the Gradebook or you can use SpeedGrader to quickly enter grades and/or provide feedback on student assignments.
Other Cool Tools
Chat
The Chat tool can be used for real-time conversation with course users.
Discussion Boards
Use Canvas Discussion Boards as much as possible. This tool allows powerful asynchronous interactivity with your class. You can have simple text based discussions or embed notes, slides, pictures and recordings. Use it to get your students to ask questions, problem solve, and generate new ideas. Pages
Creating Pages allows you to have fully customizable areas within your Canvas class. They are a great place to make a start page for project materials, centralize info, or organize resources links. Video tutorial for faculty.
Peer Reviews
A peer review assignment enables students to provide feedback on another student's assignment submission.
Quizzes and Surveys
Regular Canvas Quizzes allow instructors to make online assessments for practice or to be graded. The Canvas quiz feature can also be used to make surveys. Click here for more information about New Quizzes or watch a video tutorial.
Rubrics
Rubrics are a way to set up custom or Outcome-based assessment criteria for scoring.
File Uploads
Upload any file to Canvas using the Files tool.
Recording Audio Video
You can record short audio/video directly into Canvas Pages, Assignments, Announcements...anything!
