Nobody can see your Canvas class until it is published!
Make sure all the pieces are also published (modules, assignments...)
Check Zoom Link
If teaching online your Zoom link MUST be front and center on Canvas
Check your Zoom security settings
Require authentication unless you need it otherwise
Always test Zoom links (guest speaker, parents...) BEFORE your actual class
Check “Student View” and the Calendar
Make sure your page looks organized to students
Check your calendar in student view...does it show what you want?
Minimize your navigation bar
Use as few items as possible
You can still use any element even if you hide it on the navigation bar
Ask yourself, do students need to see the "index page" for that element (the list of pages, files...) or is the content available somewhere else more easily, such as a module or assignment?
Evaluate your course by asking...
If you left for an emergency could a substitute take over the class without needing much help? Without your Gmail?
If a student joined the class late, or was absent for several days/weeks, could they catch up via Canvas? Is it clear what they missed?
Can a student find everything they need to be successful via your Canvas course? What is missing that could help them?
Improve your course...
Add a department member to your course (as a student) and get feedback.
Have an open discussion with your students about what they find helpful.
