IET is short for Integrated Education & Training. An IET program is a structured program where adult learners participate in contextualized adult education or literacy services at the same time as they are completing workforce training and workforce preparation activities aligned to a specific career or job goal.
For most IETs, two or more instructors work together to plan and deliver a contextualized curriculum that supports learners as they develop basic skills and earn one or more industry-recognized credentials. IET instructors often utilize a co-teaching model.
NMHED has identified these priority areas for IET development and implementation in our state.
Increase employment outcomes for IET students.
Increase enrollment of students into IET.
Align new IET programs with the governor’s Executive Order 2024-152 which prioritizes clean energy transition, infrastructure, and climate resilience in New Mexico.
Create IETs which are accessible for adults with barriers to employment, skills deficiencies, and those who are learning English.
