Is Race Important --
Responding to an earlier study about the inaccuracies associated with the race adjustment in GFR (see Issue 1), F. Perry Wilson, MD, MSCE comments on the role of race in healthcare. The link contains the transcript as well as the video of his discussion.
A Network Approach to Bias in Patient Care
Reuters Health reported on a novel approach to reduce gender and race bias in patient care. Clinicians who initially under-treated a hypothetical Black woman adjusted their recommendations closer to standard of care when exposed to peer treatment decisions. There is potential to incorporate such a model into EMRs and other digital infrastructures. A summary can be found at Medscape and the full article is in the publication Nature Communications.
