Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement - Students and Parents/Guardians
The use of electronic devices is now a part of daily life for most students. These devices can help student learning and engage students in the classroom. Our school uses electronic devices such as computers, interactive whiteboards, tablets and other mobile devices in the classroom to enhance academic achievement and help motivate students. Through the use of the school's network, access to learning resources and applications (apps) help all students meet learning objectives.
To help protect all students, proper use guidelines and practices for these devices must be established, followed and monitored.
All parents/guardians must sign an Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement prior to students being permitted to use/access technology and online resources at school. The purpose of the agreement is to:
1. Ensure students and parents/guardians are aware of the conditions under which students are permitted to use technology;
2. Outline expectations and responsibilities of students and appropriate and inappropriate use of technology.
We ask parents and guardians to monitor use and to discuss these regulations and the proper use of technology with their children and we thank you for your support.
A copy of the agreement is available for review and download from the student tab of the school website. Completed agreements should be returned to the student’s teacher or the main office.
Lockdown/Secure School Procedures
Please note that in the event of a lockdown regular school procedures change totally. At the school we are unable to answer phones or the door. Essentially there is to be no one in or out during a lockdown. When it is possible, there will be communication with parents/guardians through Synrevoice, twitter or another mass communication method, although even this may not always be immediately possible. During a lockdown parents are NOT come to the school even though you may be aware that a lockdown is in progress. This is in the best interest of everyone’s safety as police will be securing the school. Similar to monthly fire drills, St. Kevin's practices lockdown drills periodically through the school year.

School Closures or Delays
If St. Kevin’s High School Should have to close due to weather, the announcement will come from District Office with reference to St. John’s and surrounding area school system known as Metro Region.
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has an on-line school closure message centre called Status Central. Every effort will be made to have school closure announcements posted to Status Central by 6:30 a.m., and depending on the weather, anytime throughout the day. Please note that school closure announcements will continue to be broadcast on the local radio stations. The mid-morning decision to open or remain closed for the day will be made at approximately 10:30 am. If there is a delayed opening cafeteria service will not be available that day.
When possible, School Connects will also be used to notify parents when school is closing during the day due to weather. Please make sure the school has accurate phone and email contact information.
To access Status Central, log on to the NL English School District website: www.nlesd.ca and click on the icon. You can customize Status Central and chose only those schools you want to view.
