A book box is a collection of objects and pictures related to a story. After reading a story, decorate the outside of a box and collect three to five objects and pictures (Can be drawn) related to a book. Items need to be important or significant in the book.
After reading a story, draw a picture of one of the characters based on descriptions in the book. Around the character list words that you would use to describe the character (Character traits).
After reading a story, draw a picture of your favorite scene from the story based on its descriptions in the story. Be sure to include lots of detail, color and a creative caption.
Pretend you are a talk show host and interview the main character. You will need to have a friend or family member help with this activity.
Create a travel brochure for the setting of the story. Be sure to use lots of description when describing the setting. Use lots of color and catchy words and pictures to help advertise your brochure.
Prepare a television commercial about your book. Be sure to have a catchy slogan. Act out the commercial for your family members.
Write a ballad or song about the characters and events in your story. Set the words to the music of a popular song and sing it to a family member.
Design a book cover for your story. Be sure your cover is different from the existing cover (if there is one) and that it represents what the story is about.
These writing and representing activities serve mostly as practice. I will not be asking students to complete all of these to submit. There may be instances, however, where students will be required to read at home and complete one of these activities to submit for assessment.
