MISSED WORK (Vacations/Sick)
Students taking vacations during the school year, or, if they are sick; homework activities are NOT expected to be completed & work is not sent home.Β Please see paragraph below re the philosophy of the Department of Education & NLSchools.Β However, students can if they wish (OPTIONAL) can keep up with their literacy skills by practicing nightly reading.
A significant portion of the K-6 curriculum (as outlined by the Department of Education & NLSchools) is a "hands-on"/exploratory based learning approach with students demonstrating their learning in a significant number of different ways based on the child's individual needs.Β It is based upon several classroom materials; whole group instruction; small/large group activities; followed by some independent assessments and tasks.Β The instructional methods are based on teacher instruction with a significant amount of modelling of outcomes and demonstration of student understanding once the outcomes have been presented.Β Therefore, "worksheets & textbooks" are not the primary source of our learning focus and will not be required to be taken on vacations, or, if students are ill.Β If your child will be absent for an extended period of time due to illness, please feel free contact me to make some alternate arrangements.Β Β Β
