School safety and security are important elements to our health and well being. Safety is a top priority. We have outlined our policies and procedures regarding many areas of school security and safety below. Please acquaint yourself with expectations of safety at Holy Cross Elementary School.
To assist us in the smooth operation of the school and for the safety and security of students and staff, we ask that any visitors to the school enter via the main entrance and check in at the office immediately. Items delivered to school for students or staff can be dropped off at the office where they will then be delivered to the individual with the minimum of disruption to teaching and learning. Should it be necessary for a parent to meet with a child, that student will be called to the General Office.
School District Employees will be required to visibly display their NLESD ID Badges where staff and students can see them.
Special Guests and Visitors to the school will be required to sign in and to wear/display the school-issued visitor badge.
Students who are being signed out of school will require a written note or email (from the parent email address on file) to the child's teacher in advance of this change in routine. While we understand that leaving school early is sometimes unavoidable, and emergency situations arise, students are expected to attend school on a regular basis unless absent due to a valid reason.
When signing out your child early:
A note or email from the parent's registered email address is required in advance. Teachers are in class and instructing, therefore, it is crucial that you write a physical note to send in with your child OR you email early morning to give the teacher time.
The full name of the person must be clearly communicated in that note.
Record of Signing Out: The adult signing out the student must record their own name, the child's name and the date/time of signing out. These records are entered into our electronic system and kept indefinitely as a child's record of attendance.
Parents are asked to note the following information pertaining to the exits which students will use this year. All students taking the bus will exit via the basement doors. Parents are asked not to park their cars in the same parking area as the buses due to the heavy concentration of traffic in this area.
Students being picked up by parents are asked to wait at the main entrance to pick up children. With the exception of those requiring special transportation, students being picked up are not permitted to use other entrances.
Parents are also reminded that a note should be sent to their child’s teacher(s) any time there is to be a departure from the child’s regular schedule.
Bicycles: Students using bicycles must wear a helmet and must wait at the main entrance until the duty teacher dismisses them, which will not be until after the school busses have left the school parking lot.
Walkers: students who are walkers (not pick ups) and walk home alone will be required to wait until the busses and traffic have left the school parking lot.
