Pupils who are bus students must use their assigned busses and bus stops (based on closest stop to their official civic address).
Pupils who require courtesy seating on a different bus, or who require a different bus stop on their same bus, must complete and submit a courtesy seating application form to holycrosselemhrd@nlesd.ca .
The school District provides oversight of bus routes and bus stops. Please reach out to the Avalon Transportation Division if you have a specific request.
NLESD Courtesy Seating Protocol (Please read)
Courtesy bus seating applications are required if a student needs to use a different stop on their bus, a different bus, or if the student is a walker and requires the bus of a bus.
Holy Cross Elementary adheres to the NLESD Courtesy Seating Protocol.
Reasons for courtesy bussing may be, but not limited to: childcare, temporary change in civic address, family emergency, etc.
Only applications of one week duration or longer will be considered.
All students, K-6, will receive bus safety training during the first week of school.
Students will be taught school bus rules and will complete a bus evaluation drill.
We encourage families to provide safety training at home prior to taking the bus on the first day.
Bus Safety Brochure, Parent and Student Expectations, and a Safety Visual can be found here.
The NLESD Bus Safety Video can be found here: https://youtu.be/4tUG0o6a9mg
A safe, enjoyable bus ride to school is important to children as they begin their school day. Safety is a priority when it comes to bussing and we expect that all students contribute to a safe, positive transportation to and from school.
Expectations of pupils while using school transportation are clearly outlined in our school handbook. School Discipline procedures for addressing and solving bus student misbehaviour and other incidents are also clearly outlined in the school handbook.
The District "Bus Incident" Form can be viewed here.
Each student requiring special accommodation for transportation, based on a physical, cognitive or emotional disability, should have a “Request for Alternate Transportation” form completed by their parents & physician, signed by the Principal and forwarded to the Student Support Services Division.
Any requests for short- or long-term accommodation for medical conditions also require the Request for Alternate Transportation Form” signed by the parents and the principal, and then forwarded to the Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services for approval.
Medical documentation, confirmed by a physician, indicating what needs are being accommodated is required. Please note that accommodation of needs for transportation should also be reflected at the school.
To begin the process of application for Alternate Transportation, please email holycrosselemhrd@nlesd.ca and it will be forwarded to the SSS Division for follow-up.
