In 2017, North Lakeland students participated in the National History Day competition for the first time. The theme was Conflict and Compromise, and three projects from North Lakeland were submitted to the regional competition at Lakeland Union High School. Of those, two were chosen to move on to the state competition in Madison.
Here are some of the process papers that students had to create as a part of the 2017 competition:
This project focused on the connection between Wittig's Point Resort to Chicago-area gangsters.
This project looked at the logging era of the Northwoods and what happened to small towns that sprang up around mills.
This project about the CCC Camp on White Sand Lake is currently on display at the Boulder Junction Historical Society Museum.
