Boulder Junction 

1847 - The federal government began surveying the land after the Native Americans ceded the land.

1889 - Boulder Junction is discovered by lumberjacks.  This land was used for logging and tourism.

1919 - YMCA buys out Rabbit Foot Resort to start Camp Manito-Wish YMCA.

Camp Manito-Wish has over one hundred acres of land with forests, fresh lakes and many rivers and streams. They let kids have an outdoor experience and get away from big cities.  Camp Manito-Wish has many outdoor programs.  Their programs range from three day trips in Northern Wisconsin to forty-five day trips in Alaska.  Their whole mission is to strengthen a kid's character and build leadership skills. 

1927 - Boulder Junction officially became a town.

1928 - A local health office was organized with an appointed health committee and health officer

1929 - Boulder Junction had a booth at the Chicago Coliseum Sports Show to help attract people to the area.

1931 - Dr. Kate resumed her practice of medicine here in November primary making house calls. 

She would become known as "Our Angel on Snowshoes".  Dr. Kate, nicknamed "The Angel on Snowshoes", came to Boulder Junction in 1926 with her husband Bill.  Dr. Kate wanted to drop out of her field even though that she was a top student in her school.

1936 - Highway K was rebuilt by Palmer Hansen.

1938 - The Boulder Junction school building was doubled in size. Andy Ohlsson was the building contractor. .

1942 - The Community Church was dedicated to the community.

1971 - The United States permanently made Boulder Junction "The Musky Capital of the World.

 

There are 194 lakes, many of which are officially designated as Class A Musky Lakes. In the 1930s, a Chicago sports writer who stayed in Boulder Junction said, “Boulder Junction is the Musky Capital of the World” to describe his fishing place. People picked up on the idea and during the next 12 years used the phrase to promote the town Boulder Junction. In 1942, the Chamber of Commerce began using it on all its brochures, and it has done so ever since. In 1950, Boulder Junction applied to the state of  Wisconsin for claim of the title.  On April 18, 1950, Secretary of State Fred R. Zimmerman, the State Department of Commerce gave the trademark certificate #17132 to the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce. Boulder Junction officially then became known as “The Musky Capital of the World”.

1973: A fire truck was received from the Army at no cost
