HS feedback from Lisa GF - From the high school perspective:
1. Calendar A is the best choice for high school students.
Our student-athletes start back on August 25, so this maximizes their summer break. (Football goes back August 20.)
A post-Labor Day start goes too late into June. We could push it earlier by starting on August 26 and build in some snow days and have more of a cushion before June 18. :) But I don't think we want to start any later.
2. It looks like we can have graduation on June 10 & 11. Maybe both high schools would need to practice on Friday to be a short enough gap between the seniors' last day and the last day for everyone else. That would be much kinder to the classified staff that runs graduation and all of the end-of-year check-outs.

Indigenous Peoples/Columbus Day
We have contacted both Tribes to get guidance on observing the day as a non-student day
Could Day be a ½ day with teacher PD in the afternoon? - Beth
Review drafts
Beth - likes 3/4/5 day start on the before Labor Day start
Spring Break aligns with CKSD
Conferences look good
Should we build a pre-labor day with snow days?
PD dates for ½ days
Beth - better to have it in October because the learning would be able to impact learning for the year, 10/1 and 10/2
Could all Elementary ½ days be the same schedule dismissal time?
Not when Secondary is running an early release day which happened during conferences b/c transportation needs to pick up Secondary.

2025-2026 Members:
District: Brumley, Kari (chair), Janet Paeth, Craig Barry, April Emerson, Gwen Lyon,, Karra Lantz
NKEA: Lisa Gray-Fritz, Siri Reinbold, Ted Jez, Cara Syverson, Katie Sandvik, Marie Moore
Guests: Megan Sawicki, Jeremy Sullivan
October 22, 2025 Meeting Minutes:
Meeting convened at 4:00 pm
Jeremy Sullivan presented the August 2025 Professional Development (PD) feedback, which was largely positive despite a low participation rate, and Kari Brumley introduced Megan Sawicki for updates on Central Office-led PD, which included ongoing AI-focused training for lighthouse teachers and LMS’s, curriculum supports like middle school ELA adjustments with Amplify, and the transition to TCI version three for middle school social studies. Megan Sawicki also detailed the rollout of the new Strive Mathematics program for K-5 schools, CI3T updates with Beth remaining the lead, and upcoming PD planning based on anticipated OSPI standards releases. Ted Jez raised concerns about the curriculum feedback loop from teachers to principals, which Megan Sawicki agreed to formalize, and suggested that future PD, including February and August, should incorporate more collaboration and application time in a workshop model, if possible. Kari Brumley previewed the February PD, with the focus, determined by OSPI to prioritize SEL. The district anticipates meeting this expectation with a deepening of AI work, and utilizing Panorama data, as confirmed by Gwen Lyon. To conclude, Lisa Gray-Fritz shared teacher feedback, including a future request for dedicated time for required Vector trainings be provided as part of the August days, and specialized AI training for high school content areas.
Action items:
Sawicki, Megan will formalize the feedback process in each session to ensure it is solid every time.
Jez, Ted will continue to look for a special education representative for the next meeting.
Brumley, Kari will share the notes and Lisa Gray-Fritz's feedback about the August PD with elementary and secondary leaders, and ensure the agenda for the next meeting reflects the discussion about reviewing the August feedback
The team is reminded to add agenda items for the 12/17 meeting by 12/13.
