Course Description:
This is the advanced level band class. To be in this ensemble, students have to have passed concert band with adequate skills to successfully participate in Symphonic Band. Other situations in which students will be considered for membership in this class include previous band experience at another school or by audition. All students who are in this band must be approved by the director.
This class will focus on developing technique, artistic expression, intonation, blend/balance, triple and asymmetric meters, extreme tempi, and reading in all major and minor keys. Additionally, students learn the individual pitch tendencies of their instruments. By the end of the year, students will be able to demonstrate an ability to play music at an advanced level (Music Literature Grade 3 to 4). Proficiency will be evaluated individually, in small groups and in the whole band setting. Students will perform at community events, football games, basketball games, festivals in the fall and spring, concerts in the winter and spring, and at the Nevada Union High School Graduation.
