Jazz Band

Course Description:

This band is open to students who are already enrolled in a concert band and have received prior approval from the director.  Exceptions may be made for guitar, bass or piano players with the consent of the director.  This fast paced and up-beat ensemble requires full student participation and allows students to explore many new types of music including swing, bebop, rock, funk and Latin. Students will develop skills in improvisation and sight-reading.  Students will perform at a fall concert, a fall festival, a winter concert, a spring festival, a swing dance, and a spring concert.  Other performances may include community events and a tour.

• Students develop technical expertise and stage presence in a variety of genres.

• Students critically assess and derive meaning from live performances through descriptive analysis. 

• Students work independently and collaboratively to apply technical and performance skills. 

• Students apply what they learn in the performing arts to learning across subject areas, including careers in and related to the performing arts.
