Course Description:
This class is open to all students who never had the opportunity to play in band in middle school. Instruments include flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion (Piano, drum set, and guitar are not used.). All students start at the beginning level. Skills will be focused on developing a basic dynamic range (piano, forte, mezzo forte, crescendos, decrescendos), using articulations (slurs, accents, staccatos, and legatos), using correct fingerings to play notes correctly, and reading note names and durations. By the end of the year, students will be able to demonstrate an ability to play music at an advanced-beginning to low intermediate level (Music Literature Grade 1.5 to 2). Proficiency will be evaluated individually, in small groups and in the whole band setting. Students will play at the Winter Concert and the Spring Concert.
