The design and manufacturing of the steering rack and pinion was a reverse engineering process of an off-the-shelf product. The original product failed under heavy impacts experienced in competition. The material properties were analyzed with FEA analysis and bench-tested in comparison. The original 12L14 was upgraded to 4340 steel to increase the yield strength and avoid plastic deformation.
