If you are using an iron on stabilizer:
Iron
Ironing pad
🦉Please note: Iron on stabilizer usually has small plastic bumps which can be fused to the fabric with head. To use the iron, plug it in and place it on a stable surface. Let the iron heat up for minute, making sure not to touch the metal as it is hot. When ironing on the fusible interfacing, make sure that this is done over the ironing pad.
Please do not cut fabric with paper scissors and vice versa. Cutting the wrong material with fabric scissors will dull the blades.
There is usually a "right" side and a "wrong" side to fabric. When creating something, the "right" or "front" side of the fabric is what you want to show to the world. The "wrong" or "back" side is the other side and is usually left hidden in the end product.
The machine runs by twisting two threads together. The upper thread shows on the "right" side, or on top of the fabric. The bobbin thread shows underneath the fabric on the wrong side.
In the image, the green thread is the upper thread and the blue thread is the bobbin thread.
When setting up the machine, the presser foot is usually moved up to have room to insert the frame, thread the needle, ect. However, while the machine is running the presser foot should be down. The presser foot handle is located behind the machine.
Check the needle in the machine.
Note: Needles need to be replaced every few project, or after every large sized project.
A size 75/11 machine needle would work for most projects. However better results can be achieved by picking an needle designed for your specific fabric selection. See the above image to understand different needle points best for different fabrics. Research the best needle for your chosen fabric before starting a project.
For example: Use a 90/14 with a heavy weight fabric.
Make sure the needle is not bent before using.
Bobbin thread setup
The embroidery process works best if you use one of the pre-wound bobbins found in the drawers of the sewing station.
There are numbers on the machine guiding what steps you should take.
Fabric preparation.
Apply stabilizer and insert fabric into the frame.
Stabilizer provides support for your stitches. Not using stabilizer could cause needle breakage and injury.
Use stabilizer if the following applies to your project.
stretch fabric
lightweight fabrics
fabrics with a coarse weave
fabrics that may cause pattern shrinkage
If the fabric is not held securely in the frame, the embroidery pattern will stitch poorly. The frame should be smaller than the fabric sample. Use the fabric around the frame to stretch the fabric taut.
If you have a smaller fabric sample, make sure the stabilizer extends beyond the frame. Secure the fabric with a basting stitch or iron on stabilizer.
