Banana Splits is a peer-based support group offered to children whose immediate families have undergone a transition, such as a separation, divorce, death, incarceration or military deployment. The Banana Splits Program is used in many elementary schools throughout the United States and works towards the goal of supporting children through a significant change in their lives.
We are running groups this year during lunch every couple of weeks. At "Splits" sessions, students participate in various projects, games, and activities. These activities are designed to help students support each other and express their feelings in productive ways. Confidentiality will be presented as an important rule and what is said in the meetings is always emphasized to stay in our group. Students may attend as many sessions as they choose, or may discontinue their involvement at any time. We will end the year with a "Banana Splits" party, which is always a favorite. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Deb Shephard, Craig Social Worker at 377-0156 x11114 or by email at dshephard@niskyschools.org.
