Ultrafast Sciences (UFS-2024)
DAE-BRNS 11th Theme meeting
28 - 30 November 2024
NISER Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India
Welcome to UFS-2024
Ultrafast science is a general term that refers to the study and exploration of phenomena in the microscopic or nanoscale world. Molecular processes such as rotation, charge transfer relaxation, proton transfer reactions and magnetization reversal occur in the picosecond range, while molecular and lattice vibrations can occur even faster, i.e., in the femtosecond range. Electronic movements can be even faster, i.e., in the attosecond range, which is perhaps the fastest process that humans can currently observe. These ultrafast processes ultimately determine the properties of matter and require specialized pulsed investigation sources, methods and instruments to study them. The associated ultrafast technologies continue to play an important role in research and applications in the fields of molecular physics and condensed matter, mechanics, optics, chemistry, materials science, biology, energy and information science.
The Annual Ultrafast Sciences Theme meetings commenced in 2013 with the inaugural event organized by IIT Kharagpur. Subsequent meetings were hosted by Manipal University, SN Bose Institute, BARC Mumbai, University of Hyderabad, Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, IIT Bombay, CEBS Mumbai, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, and National Physical Laboratory, Delhi. Since its inception, the UFS conference series has been characterized by bringing together young scientists at an early stage of their careers with renowned experts to foster discussion and collaboration in a friendly and inclusive environment. The 11th meeting, UFS 2024, is scheduled to take place at the National Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhubaneswar from November 28-30, 2024.
