Riya was born and raised in Purulia district situated in West Bengal. She completed her B.Sc. in Chemistry from Jagannath Kishore College, Sidho Kanho Birhsa University, and her M.Sc. from Sidho Kanho Birhsa University, West Bengal. Then, she joined as a Junior Research Scholar under the supervision of Dr. Ponneri C. Ravikumar in January 2023 at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar. Currently, she is working on the application of catalysis towards the functionalization of inert C-H bonds. Her hobbies include sketching and painting.
