Message from CIS-Chief Coordinator and Convener, SIS-2, Prof. Subhankar Bedanta

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to the Second Edition of the Symposium on Interdisciplinary Sciences (SIS-2), organized by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences (CIS), NISER Bhubaneswar, from 20th to 22nd November 2025.

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences was envisioned and established as a state-of-the-art facility to provide comprehensive access to advanced imaging, electron spectroscopy, and analytical techniques. With its world-class infrastructure, CIS strives to serve as a common platform for researchers from diverse fields, enabling them to explore, innovate, and collaborate beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries.

In recent years, nanoscience and nanotechnology have opened up vast opportunities, demanding ever more powerful and sophisticated tools to probe matter at the smallest dimensions. Microscopy and spectroscopy provide unique windows into the structure and dynamics of such nanoscale systems, not only in the realm of nanomaterials but also in biology and related life sciences. CIS, through its facilities and training programmes, plays a vital role in empowering undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral researchers with hands-on experience, thereby nurturing the next generation of scientists.

SIS-2 continues the mission of fostering meaningful dialogues across disciplines—bringing together experts from physics, chemistry, biology, materials science, and beyond. With its vibrant programme of invited talks, oral sessions, and posters, the symposium provides an excellent platform for knowledge exchange, idea generation, and the building of new collaborations.

On behalf of CIS and NISER, I warmly welcome all participants and look forward to an inspiring and fruitful symposium that strengthens our shared commitment to interdisciplinary science.
