Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! I’m so excited to have you in the art room, where creativity, imagination, and self-expression take center stage. Whether this is your first art class or you’re a returning artist, get ready to explore new materials, learn new techniques, and build your confidence as a creator.
This blog and our class Instagram account @tidwell_art are two great places to look to see our current projects and current tasks for both Intro to Art & Foundations of Art. Please make sure to review the syllabus and supply list on the previous pages to prepare for this school year. Let’s make this year colorful, creative, and unforgettable!
1st Quarter:
Intro to Art (6):
In the first quarter, students will be introduced to the elements and principles of visual art. They will explore the Elements of Art & Principles of Design through a variety of hands-on projects and activities. Students will learn basic drawing techniques using elements such as line, shape, values & forms. Lines and shapes are the basics in drawing objects and designs, while value and form help to create 3D effects and depth. These can work hand-in-hand with principles like contrast & emphasis. We will also be learning how to take care of our supplies, our work, and the classroom as we create these projects. We will use more of a variety of materials, elements, and principles as the year progresses. However, Quarter 1 is important for learning basic techniques and classroom structure.
Foundations of Art (7):
Much like in Intro to Art, the first quarter is used for students to build on their foundational skills by exploring the Elements of Art & Principles of Design. They will compare and contrast the Elements of Art & Principles of Design through a variety of hands-on projects and activities. Students will continue to develop drawing techniques using elements (such as line, shape, values & forms) and principles (such as contrast &emphasis) by experimenting with more complex compositions. We will also be learning how to take care of our supplies, our work, and the classroom as we create these projects. We will use more of variety of materials, elements, and principles as the year progresses. However, Quarter 1 is important for advancing basic techniques and learning classroom structure.
