HUGHES CLASS UPDATES

WELCOME TO THE 2025-26 School Year!  This year I will be teaching 3 courses. 

Art 1 is a high school credit art class focused on introducing all of the traditional art mediums. Expect to draw with a variety of tools, paint with a variety of liquid mediums, assemble with 2D and 3D materials, and sculpt with malleable and firm building materials. 

Digital Art & Animation is also a high school credit class aligned through the CTE system to prepare students for visual career opportunities from digital design and creation, to marketing opportunities. We will use traditional art practices, vocabulary, and brainstorming processes- however the end goal will be to use our computers as our main creation platform.  We will focus on Digital illustration, before adding the movement element of animation.

This year is our pilot year for Foundations: Partners in Art! This will be an opportunity for students to partner together to support one another through  higher levels of differentiated learning.  General education students will make art while e

Here is an overview of our year and what to expect as we move through our year!

Foundations of Art and Art 1: 

We will start our year  getting familiar with the room and tools we have to use. Then EVERYONE will begin with drawing basics! You will see a big emphasis on value because shading dark to light is a super power when drawing. But also, we will focus on  how to use resources and basic shapes to ensure successful drawings.  As the year continues, the prompts will open up to allow for lots of creative thinking and mess making- but for now...we are learning to care for our work and materials. Digital Art :  We start with Illustrator and becoming familiar with the Adobe Platforms.  We are getting comfortable on a desktop computer.  We will use a handful of templates to start in order to get comfortable with the drawing tools. The rest of the year will allow for much for freedom and creativity. Sometimes we will work on paper- this is to allow the teaching of art basics without the struggle of new tools and to allow some catch up time on computers!
