How are teams determined?
The DI Campus contact will look at all of the students who have signed up and create teams based on the number for students interested AND the number of volunteers to be a team manager. Teams should have 4-7 students. Teams can be composed of one grade level or multiple grade levels. If a student was on a team in the past and wants to stay with that group, there is a place on the registration form to indicate that.
How do you choose a team challenge?
Team members should read through each challenge and discuss what all it entails, taking their strengths and weaknesses into account. It is recommended that the first few team meetings focus on team building, instant challenges, and reading through the challenges.
Can a team manager have more than one team?
Yes, this is a possibility, but it might be a lot to manage. If this turns out to be your situation, you will definitely want to have other adults to help out with meetings.
Where will my team practice?
Managers should check with the campus coordinator to inquire about after school practices. Each campus has specific expectations and availability. Teams can also opt to practice off-campus. All adults present at a home practice need to have a background check. It's a good idea to solidify your practice time(s) and dates so that parents, campus coordinators, and teachers know where children are at the end of the school day.
Is there a cost for DI?
Northwest ISD is very fortunate to have a supportive advanced academics program. NISD will pay for your challenge materials ($165) and your team registration ($65). Your team is responsible for paying the $100 appraiser fee if you are unable to find a tournament appraiser at the time of registration. Teams who fail to register by the scheduled deadline (TBA) will also be responsible for a $50 late fee.
