The following ensembles are by audition only. These ensembles are considered extracurricular and rehearsals are held virtually and in person weekday mornings & during iNvest. Only the students who are dedicated to coming to every rehearsal and have achieved a high level of proficiency in vocal, aural and technical skills will be accepted into these auditioned ensembles. Students enrolled in these ensembles are expected to pass all their classes.
Encore (12-20 members)
This is an auditioned ensemble open to 9th-12th grade men and women who are concurrently enrolled in A Cappella or Chorale. The expectation of Encore is attendance at extra-curricular activities, including concerts, performances, rehearsals, and/or sectionals. Members of Encore can also comprise Barbershop & Colla Voce.
Bossa Nova (4-12 members)
This is an auditioned ensemble open to 9th-12th grade tenor bass voices who are concurrently enrolled in Choir. Performance opportunities include community groups, UIL solo and ensemble contest and school concerts. The ensemble is led by an NHS Student Director and rehearsal time will be scheduled after the ensemble is selected.
Harmony (4-12 members)
This is an auditioned ensemble open to 9th-12th grade treble voices who are concurrently enrolled in Choir. Performance opportunities include community groups, UIL solo and ensemble contest and school concerts. The ensemble is led by an NHS Student Director and rehearsal time will be scheduled after the ensemble is selected.
Students in the Northwest High School Choirs learn a great deal about proper vocal technique, diction, phrasing, dynamics, and basic music reading. One way for students to hone their skills and demonstrate what they have learned is to prepare and sing a solo. Students will submit their solo recording to be judged virtually on October 30, 2020.

This opportunity allows students an opportunity to work with a collegiate level voice instructor. To qualify, students have 1 piece of classical repertoire prepared (performance ready) and commit to the dates below. A committee of the choir directors and NHS voice lesson staff will determine who is selected to be a part of the Master Class. The decision will be based on preparedness, work ethic, and readiness for advanced skill. A maximum of 6 students will be selected.

It is expected that you are present for the entire session - to not only will you learn by doing, but learn by watching. It is encouraged that you bring a recording device so that we can record your lesson (audio only is fine, but visual/audio is better). Parents and friends are welcome to watch.
