Color/Winter Guard

At Northwest High School (NHS) both Color and Winter Guard classes are offered.  These classes focus on dance and movement, where students learn to toss flags, rifles and sabers, which qualifies as both a physical education and fine arts credit.  This class requires an audition which takes place in April of the previous school year, and is open to incoming freshmen as well as current high school students. No experience is required, although some dance is helpful.

Color Guard takes place first semester; students learn and perform a routine with the NHS marching band which enhances the competition show.  Color Guard participates in all football games, pep rallies, marching band UIL competitions and the homecoming parade along Texan Drive.

Winter Guard takes place during second semester.  This class learns an indoor floor routine and competes in the North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA) circuit.

Guard members are encouraged to attend the Northwest Band spring trip - Guard members are also eligible to earn a Letterman Jacket.
