Four years ago, I had the privilege to go to the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta Georgia with a few other teachers and our current principal, Mrs. Bunch. The Ron Clark Academy is a model school with a vision to transform classrooms around the world by demonstrating transformative methods and techniques that are embraced and replicated everywhere. The focus is education students through engaging teaching methods to create academic excellence and a passionate climate and culture. It is my hope, to bring as much as I can from Ron Clark into my classroom at Beck!
One of the key components of the Ron Clark Academy is the respect that the teachers have for the students and vice versa. To create this culture of respect, Ron Clark has implemented the Essential 55 Rules, and I would like to do the same! I have included the Essential 55 Rules to the left so that you can take a look at the expectations I will be setting in my classroom this year. While some rules are not necessarily applicable at Beck, many of the rules will lay the ground work for the culture I am trying to create in the classroom this year. This is also where we get the 'Strive for Five' which was tested during The Amazing Shake!
Throughout the year I will also be asking for various donations and supplies to create Room Transformations. A room transformation is where you add items to your room to turn it into a new learning space and experience. You then prepare content that matches that learning space. For example, you could turn your room into a doctors office and do reading surgery! Or you could add some chef materials and make a restaurant having students writing restaurant reviews! The ideas go on and on. We do room transformations to create engaging experiences for students to learn in, and often they get so engaged they don't even realize they are learning!
I am very excited to share with you all the knowledge I gained from attending the Ron Clark Academy!
