Frequently Asked Questions
Do we take trips or have social events in choir?
Yes! We are proud to offer several social events and field trips for our students. Past events include Urban Air, Epic Waters indoor water park, movie nights, and more!
What is the extra-curricular time commitment for choir?
In 6th grade, there is minimal extra-curricular time commitment. There are 4 major concerts each school year and typically one before or after-school rehearsal prior to each concert. All concerts and social events are announced months ahead of time to help choir students and families plan ahead.
Is there an advanced opportunity for 6th grade students?
6th Grade choir students have the opportunity to audition for the NISD 6th Grade Honor Choir. This is a district-wide group that features the most dedicated and talented singers in NISD at a special Clinic & Concert in February each year. Students will receive audition information from their directors in the fall.
Is there a fee associated with joining choir?
Yes. In order to support the amazing programs and activities that Medlin Choir produces each year, there is a small fee of $30. This fee covers each student's uniform, instructional materials, and the spring field trip to 6th Grade Sing Competition. To decrease the cost of the fee and fund more activities, Medlin Choir participates in an annual fundraiser. We ALWAYS offer need-based choir fee scholarships because we firmly believe that ALL students belong in our program.
Can I play sports and be in choir?
Yes! While Athletics is not an option for 6th grade students, Choir and Athletics are an excellent pairing during 7th & 8th grades. In some classes, as many as 85% of students are in both choir and athletics. It is always awesome for your directors to attend a sporting event to cheer on our choir family!
Can my student take multiple fine arts classes?
Yes! Each year there are many students that take choir and another fine arts class. Multiple fine arts classes are an excellent pairing for students with a deep interest in music or the arts.
