Yes! We are proud to offer several social events and field trips for our students. Past events include Urban Air, Epic Waters indoor water park, movie nights, video game nights, open gym, dodgeball tournaments and more!
In 6th grade, there is minimal extra-curricular time commitment. There are 4 major concerts each school year and typically one before or after-school rehearsal prior to each concert. All concerts and social events are announced months ahead of time to help choir students and families plan ahead. Check out the current choir calendar to get an idea of a typical year in choir.
6th Grade choir students have the opportunity to audition for the NISD 6th Grade Honor Choir. This is a district-wide group that features the most dedicated and talented singers in NISD at a special Clinic & Concert in March each year. Students will receive audition information from their directors in the fall.
Yes. In order to support the amazing programs and activities that Medlin Choir produces each year, there is a small fee of $30. This fee covers each student's uniform, 1 social event, and the spring field trip to 6th Grade Sing Competition. To decrease the cost of the fee and fund more activities, Medlin Choir participates in an annual fundraiser. We ALWAYS offer need-based choir fee scholarships because we firmly believe that ALL students belong in our program.
Yes! While Athletics is not an option for 6th grade students, Choir and Athletics are an excellent pairing during 7th & 8th grades. In some classes, as many as 85% of students are in both choir and athletics. We also have many 6th grade singers who play sports in the Trohpy Club/Roanoke community. You really can enjoy the best of both worlds! It is always awesome for your directors to attend a sporting event to cheer on our choir family!
Yes! Each year there are many students that take choir and another fine arts class. Can't decide between band and choir? Take them both! Do you want to sing and act? Sign up for choir and theatre! Multiple fine arts classes are an excellent pairing for students with a deep interest in music or the arts.
