Reading Restaurant: Please join us in celebrating our students' reading growth this year! Reading Restaurant will take place in your child's classroom on Friday, April 19th from 10:00-10:45 AM


If you're able to join us, please RSVP no later than 4/17. 

On Monday, April 8th all students who have not been opted OUT will participate in a viewing of the solar eclipse. All students will be given safety glasses to wear for the duration of the eclipse. Please have conversations with your child prior to Monday the 8th about the importance of keeping the glasses on while viewing the eclipse.

What We Are Learning in First Grade

Morning Meeting: 

We will begin a month long focus on courage. 

Phonics: 

We will begin to learn about r-controlled vowels. We will focus on reading and writing /ar/ and /or/ this week. 

Reader's Workshop: 

We will be focusing on getting ready for Reading Restaurant! We will also start focusing on various comprehension skills such as predicting and confirming our predictions, retelling and revisiting books to notice more. 

Writer's Workshop:

We will start a week long focus on research. We will be researching chickens to go alongside our chick unit in science. 

Math Workshop:

We will practice subtracting 2-digit numbers from other 2-digit numbers, beginning with groups of ten and then moving to numerals that have something in the tens and ones place. We will also start learning about equivalent coins. 

Science:

We will continue our chicken life cycle unit! 

Social Studies:

We will learn about Sam Houston and the role he played in Texas history.
