If your child has a medical note that prevents them from playing at recess, please make sure that you also inform P.E. and music teachers. Students move a lot in both of these classes and teachers need to know of any limitations.
Students may bring a dry, quick, and healthy snack. Good suggestions are apple slices, carrot sticks, grapes, goldfish, pretzels and granola bars. Please do not send chips, cookies, candy, anything that needs to be peeled, and anything that needs a utensil to eat for your child to have as a snack.
Students may bring a filled water bottle with only clear (unflavored) water. Do not add flavor packets to the water in case of spills. Students may not bring cups with straws. Only water bottles that can securely close will be allowed.

PARENTS, Please watch and follow staff directions in the morning drop off. We need you to pull all the way forward. Please do not stop at the kindergarten doors as you back up traffic. We need to keep everything flowing. We have staff on hand to assist students getting to class.

Please remember to follow our attendance guidelines and keep your child home when they are sick. While we value your child’s learning time in the classroom, help prevent the spread of illness and ensure the health of other students by making sure your child is fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. Please also talk to your child about healthy habits like frequent hand washing and covering your mouth when coughing.

Students are encouraged to make flashcards to practice multiplication facts of five. Students are also encouraged to read every night and review addition and subtraction facts for automaticity.
This week, students will continue learning about plot and take their Summative test on Thursday, 9/17, over plot elements and common/proper nouns.
Ask your child what makes up the plot in a story.
This week, students will complete the publishing process and publish their stories! Students will turn their favorite story they have drafted and turn it into a published book with detailed illustrations, complete sentences, punctuations, a cover, a book blurb, and an about the author section.
Ask your child what makes their personal narrative so important to them and how did they choose to share it.
Skills Block:
This week, students will be studying open syllables and applying the long vowel sound to help them spell words. The students will also learn about plural nouns.
Ask your child how does the vowel sound in an open syllable (the vowel makes the long vowel sound).
Ask your child how to change a singular noun to a plural noun (add an s, es, drop the y and add ies, or that some nouns are irregular; ex. mouse - mice, deer - deer)
This week, students will learn about the associative property to solve multiplication facts. Students will also solve multiplication facts of eight and nine. We encourage students to make flashcards for multiplication facts of five to practice daily. We will assess fluency of the multiplication facts of five on Friday, September 25th. The test review for topic three will be sent home on Thursday, September 17th. This is optional, but highly encouraged. Students who complete and turn in the test review by Monday, September 21st will receive extra credit on the test. The topic three test will be on Monday, September 21st. Students will take a CBA over the first three topics on Tuesday, September 22nd.

This week, we will review what we have learned in Topic 1 about the properties and forms of matter, as well as how to combine materials to create or modify objects. We will complete a study guide in class on Tuesday to prepare for our summative assessment on Wednesday, September 16th. We have also attached the completed study guide below if you'd like to start reviewing early. The Read About It articles are also attached below for review. The latter part of the week, we will start Topic 2 about Force and Motion.
