The tardy bell rings at 7:40 am. and staff close the doors to start class. Students need to arrive BEFORE 7:40 am. to safely access the back doors of the school. If a car rider arrives after the doors are closed, please drive your child to the front entrance of the school and walk them up to the doors to ring the bell so that he/she can come through the office for a Tardy Pass. Thank you!
Do you feel like you’re getting too many texts or emails from ParentSquare? Just want notifications in the ParentSquare app? Change your communications preference to meet how you want to receive messages!
Families in Northwest ISD have full control of how they receive ParentSquare messages. To change your settings, sign in on the ParentSquare website and hover over your profile’s name in the top right corner to select “My Account.” From there, click “Notification Settings” on the left sidebar and turn on or off any message format (email, text and app) and whether you receive notifications instantly or each evening (in the “digest” option).
Parents please use the ride change form link to communicate your child's ride change by 2:00 pm. We will not release students without confirmation from parents regarding ride changes
If you are picking your student up early for an appointment, 2:30pm is the latest we will be able to release students.
Setting your preferred language in ParentSquare:
Did you know ParentSquare provides families with the ability to set their preferred language? If the primary language in your household is not English, you can change the settings to receive all ParentSquare communication (include messages, emails, texts and more) to whatever language you prefer. This provides machine-translated posts and messages requiring no work on either you or your campus! Read how to change this setting in this how-to article.
The character trait for this month is kindness
Our school and Northwest ISD invites families to provide their input about your family’s educational experiences through a survey open from Monday, February 6, through noon Monday, February 27.
Let us know what you feel is working and where you think we can improve. Respondents are asked to identify strengths and areas needing improvement on topics such as campus climate, safety, instruction, communication and support services.
The survey will be available at www.nisdtx.org/survey until its close on February 27. Thank you for your feedback and assisting the continuous improvement of our school.
Due to the uncertainty of the weather, Wise Guys Spirit Night will be February 8th.
Calling all 5th Grade Parents!!
Send your child a message to be in the yearbook. Deadline to submit is February 24th. No late orders will be accepted.
In PE this week we are kicking off the American Heart Association Kid’s Heart Challenge in conjunction with our jump rope unit. This challenge raises funds for the American Heart Association (not for Cox Elementary). Students are encouraged to register online (with parent approval and help of course) and complete challenges at home as well as learn about heart health at school.
Students can earn prizes, some of which are instant and will be handed out in PE, and some of which will be shipped to the school after the challenge. No one is required to fundraise and we will celebrate our successes in both the Kids Heart Challenge and our jump rope skills on February 23 and 24 in our PE classes. We will not be accepting any cash donations! All donations should be entered through the website or the app.
To register, please go to https://www2.heart.org or download the Kids Heart Challenge App!
If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach Breckley or Coach Jeffrey.
Show Cox Elementary students the importance of reading by taking part in Northwest Reads! Elementary schools are welcoming guest readers across Northwest ISD on Friday, March 3, as part of the annual event. Participants will choose from a variety of books to read to pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students at one of the district's 20 elementary schools. The program provides community members with an opportunity to inspire district students to become lifelong readers. To become a volunteer reader, visit www.nisdtx.org/northwestreads.

Giving Opportunities to Support Students
Memorial Scholarship
We all miss our sweet Ms. Rena Garrett! Ms. Rena was our lead campus assistant, who we lost last year. We all knew Ms. Rena as our “campus mom.” She loved us and took care of us all unconditionally.
Staff members felt very passionate about doing something that would honor her and NEF helped us to create a lifetime memorial scholarship for a NISD senior.
If you feel led to donate, here is the link for the donation page: https://nef.networkforgood.com/projects/153104-rena-garrett-memorial-scholarship
Our goal is $5000. Your donation would be greatly appreciated.
Honoring Lunch Account
We are pleased to announce
The Rena Garrett Honoring Lunch Account has been created. Rena always made sure every kid had a lunch to eat so this is a great way for her legacy to continue.
Students who do not have enough money in their account to purchase a lunch will be able to use this account to buy a lunch.
I know many of you expressed an interest in helping with this scholarship. If you would like to donate to the account, please make check payable to Aramark or send cash to the school. Please reference “Rena Garret” or put account number 1091063 on the check.

Visitors at Lunch: 3rd Nine-Weeks
Due to limited space, we will be limiting the number of guest allowed per grade level lunch. Only those who have signed up on the sign up genus link will be able to eat lunch with their child. All visitors will need to check in with the office using their valid driver's license or government issued ID.
We have tables set up outside the cafeteria in the hallway designated for lunch visitors. Only you and your child will be able eat at the parent/student tables. No friends allowed. Lunch guests will need to bring their own lunch.
When your child's lunch time is over, visitors will need to come directly to the office and check out. For safety and security reasons, parents cannot follow students to their classroom or the playground.
In order for all parents to have the opportunity to eat lunch with their child, you may sign up for only 2 slots per student per grading period.
There are some dates that will be blocked for lunch sign ups due to events or changes in schedules.
Pre-K, ECSE and PACEE reach out to your child's teacher to schedule.
