About the Department

Nirmala College Muvattupuzha is a first grade college which has completed 66 years of glorious service. The college is affiliated to M. G. University, Kottayam. The Department of Statistics started functioning in 1984 with the introduction of M.Sc. Statistics course. In 2009, the department is elevated as an approved research centre in Statistics of the M. G. University. In addition, it offers subsidiary Statistics for B.Sc. Mathematics, a compulsory main paper in Statistics for B.A. Economics and M.A. Economics. Prof. Tharu P.C. was the first H. O. D and Ms. Denneesamma Joseph, Mr. T. K. Jose, Mr. Cyriac P. C., and Ms. Sophy Thomas, Dr. Mathachan Pathiyil, Ms. Jessy John, Dr. Johny Scaria and Dr. Seetha Lekshmi V were former faculties of the department. Dr. Jacob T. M., Dr.Albin Paul, Mr. Linto Joseph, and Mr. Jitto Jose are the current faculty members of the department.

Ever since its inception, the Department has always kept high standards and traditions in academic and co-curricular activities. Over the years, the department has established an excellent track record in University examination results and in student placements. Five students secured PhD degree from the department. Our students have been consistently securing university ranks in the examination. 6 alumni from the department are selected to prestigious Indian Statistical Service. The department is giving special training in softwares like SAS, Minitab, SPSS, R, Mathematica, Python, etc and our students got placements in several multinational companies.

Currently, the department has two MoU with software companies for software training and placement. Academia Collaboration with IQVIA is running a course in SAS programming and biostatistics. The department also has collaboration with IMMO for internships. Another important highlight of the department is its alumni support. Alumni support for placement, final year projects are remarkable. With the support of alumni, all needy students are getting laptops and other electronic devices during their course time here.
